Sunbathing at the beaches is a popular activity during the summer months. Paragliders sometimes take to the air from the main beach when the conditions are suitable.
The main beach is located at the end of CR Swart Road in front of the Brenton Haven Hotel. A wooden pathway leads down onto the beach. The main beach has Blue Flag status. There are ablution blocks with toilets and showers and an outside shower halfway on the pathway to/from the beach. It is safe to swim between the flags when the lifeguards are on duty during the school holidays.
There are also secluded beaches down the cliffs that can be reached with pathways containing quite a lot of steps and easy clambering over rocks. They are Jaapse beach, Millionaire’s beach and Die Blokke beach. These beaches are quieter and boast beautiful rock formations and caves. However, swimming is not safe due to the frequent riptides.
There are two picnic spots as indicated on the map above with beautiful mosaic tables and benches from where to enjoy picnics, spectacular sunsets, whales blowing and breaching or dolphins frolicking in the waves.
The most common species of fish caught here are:
Fisherman’s Walk is a popular trail located along the cliffs at Brenton-on-Sea.
The major length of Fisherman’s Walk falls between the boundaries of 32 private erven and the cliff edge, and is almost 1 km from one side to the other along the top of the cliff.
The pathway gives access to two beaches down the dune cliffs namely Die Blokke Beach on the east and Millionaire’s Beach at the west end. There are a lot of steps and the beaches below are therefore fairly secluded, except for over the holiday seasons.
The two official access points to this trail are both located at Steenbras Street and indicated by blue dots 1 and 2 on the map below. There are two other entrances from Steenbras street, indicated by a yellow A (between private erven 855 & 424) and a yellow B (between private erven 561 & 564) on the map below.
There are 4 wooden viewing decks and 14 benches dotted along the cliff edge from where to enjoy a rest with spectacular scenery.
The trail is described on the Western Heads Goukamma Conservancy’s website and can be done from either end. There are three sections to the trail, and can be done as a whole or per section. The trail is well marked.
